Why? Because science and math are awesome
But it is hard to remember how many centimeters are in an inch, or the formula for the focal length of a lens.
The goal of this site is to present a collection of quick, easy-to-use and visually appealing calculators and demos for common math and science tasks.
As a kid I was taught that it was important to be able to do math by hand, with the exhortation that I would need it because nobody carries calculators around all the time. While I do think it is important to be able to do math by hand, I find it funny that with smart phones these days, we really do carry calculators around everywhere. And it is awesome, because I never really learned my multiplication tables properly.
As a science student and now a post-doctoral fellow, I have found myself needing tools to do quick calculations, and finally decided it would be nice to have them all in one place, along with some visualizations to improve understanding.
Something to keep in mind:
"Data is not information, information is not knowledge, knowledge is not understanding, and understanding is not wisdom."
--Clifford Stoll
